Hide chat with Social Interaction screen Minecraft 1.16.4

Published 4 months ago

This is how to BLOCK players in chat on a multiplayer server in Minecraft 1.16.4, using the new Social Interactions screen in the new release candidate. Let's dig into what you NEED to know about this update!

Mojang just dropped the pre-release for 1.16.4

CHANGELOG: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-1-16-4-pre-release-1

The main change in this prerelease of 1.16.4-rc1 is the introduction of a new "Social Interaction" screen. Mojang added social distancing in Minecraft.

This will allow you to disable chatting with specific players on a multiplayer server.

If, for some reason, you are not getting along with someone else, you can hide any messages that you receive from them. Note that if you disconnect and re-join the server, you will see their messages again - so it is a temporary measure, and you would need to re-hide their messages again if you still did not want to see them.

You can open this new menu easily, by pressing the letter "P" key on your keyboard.

As usual, keyboard shortcuts are customisable in Minecraft - so you can change this to anything else you want within the control settings.

Another feature added in 1.16 was the ability to turn down the nausea and Nether portal effects, in case you have a negative reaction to these effects for health reasons. These options have been moved into the new Social Interaction screen, so you can access them easily using the "P" key as well.

There was also a technical change in this release to how protocol versions are handled in Minecraft snapshots. The main benefit here is that in many cases the protocol version will not change between major releases of the game, unless it is absolutely necessary. If I understand this correctly - this should make things easier on mod creators, meaning we'll get our favourite mods being compatible with new versions of Minecraft slightly faster.

There were also some bug fixes, to fix issues causing the server to crash. Which is always a good thing!

I have a few videos on the recent awesome announcements for 1.17 - if you like Axolotls or want to find out what's new in the Lush Caves biome, check them out!

See you next time.
