Frequently Asked Questions
I live in South Australia, Australia.
I'm a software engineer / web developer. It's also my hobby, so in my free time I work on other projects, and this website is one of them!
I get all of my royalty-free music for Minecraft YouTube videos and Twitch streaming from Epidemic Sound.
The main thing I love about it is no longer having to remember to add attribution into my video descriptions. Even something like the YouTube media library requires you to attribute for some music, so it's a relief not needing to check for that every time.
What's awesome is that they offer a 30 day free trial - so you can use it without paying, as long as you link up your channel to their website and release the videos within the trial period. If you don't like it, you can cancel.
I started by using Epidemic Sound for parts of my Best Village Defence Against Pillager Raids video back in May 2020, and I've continued using it ever since! I love it.
After watching a video, if you want to know what music I used just post a comment and ask, along with giving the timestamp. I'll reply back with the song name :)
The microphone I use is only sold in Australia, I believe. I bought the microphone from a local electronics store named JB Hi-Fi.
For listening I use the amazing Sony WH-1000XM3 noise-cancelling headphones from Sony. They're the best I've ever owned! I use them daily - gaming, podcasts, phone calls, etc.
While I have a mechanical keyboard I had issues with it being picked up during recording so I'm using a cheaper Logitech K120 and it serves my needs perfectly!
I would highly, highly, highly recommend the following two tools for any YouTube creator: TubeBuddy and VidIQ. Both provide browser extensions for all major browsers and provide added functionality on top of what YouTube themselves offer.
Usually I record using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), and I edit videos with the macOS-only ScreenFlow editor. I also record directly into ScreenFlow on occasion. I am experimenting with Adobe Premiere Pro as a cross-platform editor alternative.
For thumbnails, I use the excellent Sketch app (also macOS-only). It's a vector drawing app designed mainly for creating user interfaces, but it also works perfectly for me when I need to create a video thumbnail.
Oh, and I sometimes play this tiny little niche game. :)
About a decade ago, on 9th March 2011. My first Minecraft video was uploaded the next day (on 10th March 2011), playing Minecraft Beta 1.3_01 on a dodgy laptop! The video quality was horrible :)
It wasn't until late 2019 that I started to consider taking this YouTube thing seriously. I did a few tests in October, and then from February 2020 I decided to focus on uploading videos weekly (on average).
A year and a half later, in mid-2021, I'd released over 100 videos on the channel and learned a lot. I'm not planning to stop any time soon! (I'm having too much fun! :P)
At the time of writing, it's definitely my video explaining How To Make a Potion of Invisibility.
In preparation for the Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs update, I also created a video explaining Everything we know about the Axolotl in Minecraft 1.17, and that one was also extremely popular.
Thanks for your interest in ScoutCraft SMP! We're pretty proud of what has been built so far, and we have plenty of long-term plans for the Minecraft server. We are currently accepting applications for Season 2 (which will run on both Minecraft 1.17 and Minecraft 1.18) in the ScoutCraft Discord server. Just hop in there and ask for the role so you can apply.
And while you're over there, why not join my LeigerGaming Discord server as well? :) There's tons of awesome people in there!
You may also be interested in Leiger SMP, which is my community-powered Patreon SMP server. Scoutcraft requires that you be a content creator, regularly upload videos on your channel, and be accepted from a large list of applicants. The patreon server is open to all supporters, and a channel or content creation is not required. :)
